Colchester United Football Club

The English football team who play in Colchester is known as Colchester United Football Club. The stadium in which they played was called Layer Road and this team came into existence in 1937. Robbie Cowling is their Chairman and Paul Lembert is the team manager. At present they are playing in Football League championship and their position in the championship is League One, 12th position.

In 2008 the new life has started for the UFC when they shifted to Community stadium in the North Essex. The stadium has capacity of 10,000 people. Club itself funded its construction but the local council owned it. In the League One match of club with Leads United in April 2009 seen the highest attendance of 9,559 in the stadium.

Their highest ever score was achieved in 2006-07 league and the season ended with their 10th position in the Championship. Steve Lamacq, Bob Russell MP, Alastair Cook and many other famous personalities are the supporters of UFC. Essex Southend United are their main rivals. Both the teams have contested for Essex Derby. Ipswich Town is also a rival for Colchester UFC; with whom they played a League fixture in 2006-07 and after winning they earned the title of ‘Pride of Anglia’. UFC has a controversial relation with Wycombe Wanderers. In 1985-86 Wycombe defeated UFC and in 1991-92 season UFC and Wycombe again contested for the Conference title and then UFC has took its revenge by defeating them.

Colchester UFC has many notable and talented players like Ben Williams, John White, Mark Cousins and many others. Former players of the club like Peter Wright were given the title of ‘U’s player of the century’. There are many other former players also who are included in the ‘Hall of fame’ for making the club more happening and improving the position of club. There is no doubt that UFC has changed the history of football in UK.
