Colchester Institute is the major provider of further education and training for North Essex and adjoining areas. The College also provides a range of higher education (degree level) courses.

Colchester Institute is famous for providing higher education and training in North Essex and other nearby areas. Its degree level courses are very beneficial for students. In the institute there are courses for everybody according to their choice. Their main aim is to provide education to all irrespective of their age and mental level. They train them according to the challenges they might face in the real world. Here students get experience of how to get successful in life.

The best feature of the institute is that they are in continuous touch of corporate world so that they can match their course contents with today’s demand. Their courses are up to the international standards. It offers both full-time and part-time courses. There are at least 40 honour courses and foundation degree courses in the institute and the University of Essex affiliates all. The area of courses includes Design, Art, Business Management, Computers, Engineering, Media, Health and almost all the major subjects. Master-level courses are also available here in the field of Art, Design, Media, Music and performing arts. Institute’s professional Teacher’s Training program is well known.

Institute’s main emphasis is on providing a good environment for studies and shaping the future of students. Employability is their main agenda. At present there are more then 1000 students studying here for full-time courses and for HE awards. College campus is a vibrant place situated Sheepen Road, Colchester. Soon the campus will undergo a change so as to make it more convenient and comfortable for students.

Colchester institute is also considered a mixed-economy institute because all its courses are having economical fee so anybody can afford it. Institute is not only provide education but it also boost the confidence level of students and making them ready to face the toughest challenge called life.

Colchester Institute operates from campuses at Sheepen Road, Colchester; Church Road, Clacton-on-Sea and Thomas Road, Clacton-on-Sea. The Learning Shop@Dovercourt and The Learning Centre (Colchester) provide additional town centre locations for computer training and learndirect access.

Colchester is a vibrant town in which to live and study. It is a unique blend of ancient and modern with its castle and museums alongside a bustling town centre which offers a variety of restaurants, pubs, cinemas and a multi-million pound leisure complex.

Clacton-on-Sea is a seaside town with a pier, amusements and a lively entertainment and social scene. The main campus is just off the sea front and only five minutes walk from the town centre. The railway station is nearby. The Thomas Road Campus is on the Colbayns High School site.

Student Life

Colchester Institute has over 120 full-time courses for you to choose from. New courses are developed to ensure our students have the skills and qualifications they need for further study and employment.

We have over 10,500 students at Colchester Institute who all benefit from the extensive facilities, including student services, learning support, childcare, travel schemes and much more. The Learning Link offers first class support in communication, numeracy and IT. There are almost 800 computers with Internet access and on-line learning opportunities for students.

  • Apprenticeships
    Apprenticeships are increasingly popular and a fantastic way to start or further your career plans. Colchester Institute Apprenticeship programmes offer young people the opportunity to do just that!

  • Entry to Employment (e2e)
    Entry to Employment (e2e) is a ‘roll on roll off’ special course offered by Colchester Institute (at Colchester and Clacton campus) to suitable students in the age range of 16 – 19. It is aimed at learners who need to prepare for work by either gaining some basic skills qualifications in numeracy and literacy, or need help in finding employment.

  • 14-16 year olds Vocational Provision
    The college has been offering 14 -16 provision for five years and has seen a high percentage of success rates. It is in partnership with fifteen local schools in the area.
  • Business Training Solutions 
    The Professional Training Centre (the business training arm of Colchester Institute) specialises in providing  courses to individuals and businesses.

    Provides free courses available to all Trade Union officials in line with the TUC Lifelong Learning Strategy.

  • The Learning Centre
    is an outreach centre for Colchester Institute. It offers a range of free taster courses and workshops as well as being a learndirect centre.

  • The Clacton Consortium

    The Clacton Consortium is a partnership of the four institutions providing full-time, post-16 education in Clacton.  It comprises Bishops Park College, Clacton County High School, Colbayns High School and Colchester Institute.

     

    These four institutions work closely together in order to offer students completing their secondary studies, a full range of learning opportunities in the Clacton area. By working together they believe that they can provide learners with the widest possible choice of courses at the right academic level. 

     

    Traditionally both Clacton County High School and Colbayns High School have provided a full programme of A Level subjects and a limited range of one year vocational courses. Meanwhile, Colchester Institute has offered a much larger range of one year and two year vocational courses. It makes sense to pool resources and the Clacton Consortium prospectus will show the full choice.
