In the field of sports Colchester is not behind. As UK is the founder of the game of cricket so people of Colchester are very much interested in this game. Colchester is a small town even then there is many cricket clubs operating here. All the clubs having their own cricket teams and all the players are well trained. These clubs have inter-club cricket tournaments also. All this gives a nice entertainment to the people of Colchester.

Let me tell you about some of the Colchester Cricket Clubs in brief:

      1. Copford Cricket Club- In Essex there is a small village in the West Colchester named Copford. People of Copford are fond of Cricket so they formed a Club in 1960. They hired a ground of a local private school for the practice. Till 1972 they relied upon that rented place. After that they developed their own ground and clubhouse near Cupford hall and 12th century church. In 1974 they had started playing their games on the newly developed ground. They had changed the local cricket scenario and in 1976 they introduced an organized League and became the founder member.

      2. Coggeshall Town Cricket Club – The club members play their games on the Harefield ground at beautiful town of Coggeshall. On Saturday and Sundays their games held and throughout the season of cricket there are many events organized by the club.

      3. Essex Country Cricket Club – This club was formed in 1876 and it is the oldest Cricket Club of UK. They won their first trophy in 1979 by winning the County championship. This club has seen many great English Cricketers like Graham Gooch, Nasser Hussein, Darren Gouch and many more

      4. Shepherd Neame Essex Cricket League – This is the Premier League of Essex, which is accredited by ECB (Essex Cricket Board).
